Obituary For Kathleen Patricia Bulford

It is with broken hearts and profound disbelief that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our angel on earth, Kathleen.

Kathleen Patricia was born March 16, 1949, in Northern Ireland to Catherine and Francis McGreevy, where she was the middle child of nine. She lost her dad when she was just a young girl, and it was a huge loss because she adored him and his playful spirit, which she matched. After she finished school, she attended business college and worked in an office in Belfast, a job she enjoyed. In 1969, Kathleen was encouraged by her mother to move to Canada, to Maple Ridge, BC where her older sister Lily and family and her brother Hugh had emigrated to. She told her younger siblings she would be back soon, but she would not return to Ireland until many years later. The biggest reason for that delay was meeting the love of her life, Grant, in the fall of 1971. Grant had just been transferred there for his first RCMP posting. They fell completely in love after their first date, getting married in 1972 and then starting their bustling family of five. The arrival of Monica would start their family in 1972, followed by Tammy in 1974.

Being married to a police officer has its challenges, but the biggest was leaving family and friends and moving to start over in a new town. In August 1977 Grant and Kathleen made their first move to Carlyle, Saskatchewan where they welcomed Sean in December of that year. While in Carlyle they added Ryan in 1979 and rounded off their crew with Daniel in 1982.

So many life-long friends were made in Carlyle that became more like family, which was so important to her, as she was so far away from hers. She made many special memories there with her young family.

Seven years later, the trek was made north to Battleford, Saskatchewan, where she started all over again, finding many new friends. If you knew Kathleen, that was easy for her to do. She was so easy to love. Two years later, the family was on their way to settle in Bezanson for years to come, and back with family.

She was a vital member of her community, involved with the local CWL, TOPS, Bezanson Rec Society, Bezanson Senior Centre, and wherever else she was needed. She has been called by some a matriarch in the community, and that is so true, she loved and was loved by all.

She was known for her strong Catholic faith, her sweet Irish singing voice, her quick wit, her smiling eyes, and most of all her beautiful and giving heart. She was a brilliant ray of love to all who knew her. She was truly one in a million.

Her greatest and most precious gifts were her family- Grant, the love of her life, travel companion, ranch hand and soulmate, her children who she loved unconditionally, and her shining stars, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen was predeceased by her father Francis McGreevy, her mother Catherine McGreevy, her sisters, Lily McFadden, Rose Brennan, and Sally McKay, brothers Joe and Hugh McGreevy, infant brothers Seamus and Francis, mother-in-law Annie Bulford, father-in-law Harvey Bulford, and Granny Bulford.

She is survived by her adoring and loving husband Grant, her children and grandchildren who were her entire world. She will be missed dearly by her daughters Monica (Wade), Tammy, sons Sean (Shelanne), Ryan (Jenny) and Daniel (Pyper), her grandchildren Daylon, Ashley (Kyle, and their children Hudson and Jillian), Emma Kate, Abby, Sean, Logan, Dani Lynn, Lily, Rheed, Charlie, Ella, Griffin, Hayes and Sutton. She is also survived by her three brothers, Mickey, Francie (Wanda), and Len (Noleen) McGreevy, her in-laws, who she loved like her own family, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who held a special place in her heart, as she certainly did in theirs.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the friends and the emergency personnel that tried so hard to keep her with us.

Service for Kathleen will be held on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at St. Joseph Catholic Church 10404 102 St. Grande Prairie.

Luncheon to follow at the Bezanson Memorial Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to please make a donation in Kathleen’s name, to a charity of your choice.
