Obituary For Georgia Margot Herrmann

Georgia Margot Sandback was born December 18, 1935, in Monterey, California to Norwegian immigrants George Sandback and Vila Strand. Georgia grew up in Washington State, Philadelphia and Germany. She graduated from Tacoma’s Lincoln High School in 1954. Georgia had an older sister, Peggy Goodreau (1930-1983).

Georgia worked as a telephone operator and studied at Monterey Junior College with an interest in becoming a forest ranger, although opportunities for women were rare at that time. She married Jerry Tallman in 1955 and they made their home in Olalla and then on Whidbey Island. Three children came next: Tommy, Susan and Eve. Sadly, Jerry died from a brain tumor in 1963. Widowed at age 27, Georgia later married Richard E. Herrmann, an old friend from Lincoln High School. They had a son, Richard G. Herrmann, and moved the family to Gig Harbor, where Georgia remained until her death on February 15, 2025. Her husband Richard preceded her in death in 2002.

Rhododendrons, gardening, her Norwegian heritage and fellowship at Peninsula Lutheran Church were lifelong interests for Georgia, along with a solid phase as a soccer, swim team and scouting mom. She was a longtime participant in swim aerobics at the Tacoma YMCA and a member of the PLC choir. She loved to visit hot springs, travel to national parks, spoil her grandkids, and she was blessed with three great-grandsons during her lifetime.

Georgia is survived by her sons Tom Tallman (Jan) of Longbranch and Richard Herrmann of Bellevue, and daughters Susan Reynolds (Bob) of Yelm and Eve Tallman (Ralph Ferrara) of Moab, Utah; grandchildren Hesper Tallman of Longbranch, BJ Reynolds of Texas, Wendy Palmer Marsh of Moab, Utah and Dan Reynolds of Port Orchard; great grandsons Tyson, Gunner and Corbin; and two nephews, Michael Goodreau (Diane) of Phinney Ridge and Troy Goodreau (Kim) of Ellensburg.

Georgia will be missed by her neighbors, friends, Norwegian relatives and family. No services will be held at her request. Her family is grateful to Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care.
